The Radiancy Skin Station Laser

The Radiancy Skin Station’s pulsed light and heat energy (LHE TM) is used to achieve skin rejuvenation effects without risk to the epidermis (top layer of the skin). The Skin Station causes a controlled, mild thermal injury of the dermal collagen, inducing new collagen formation and remodeling which improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also targets pigmented (age spots) and vascular lesions to even skin tone and leaves skin clearer, smoother, and younger looking. A series of treatments followed by yearly maintenance sessions reduce the chronological signs of aging.

The Radiancy Skin Station’s other function is the treatment of adolescent acne and may eliminate the need for Accutane use. Treatment sessions last about 15 minutes. Dr. Boysen begins with two sessions per week; thereafter, sessions are spaced out as acne is controlled. This treatment is FDA approved and requires no downtime. The Skin Station reduces the lifespan of an active acne lesion, lyses the bacterial byproducts of acne lesions and stuns sebaceous glands to create less oil production. These effects can also be combined with other topical and oral treatments to give clearer skin and fewer long term acne scars.



The Apex 800 Hair Removal Laser

The Apex 800 diode laser is used for removal of unwanted hair anywhere on the body. The laser generates a beam of intense, concentrated light which is directed through a small hand piece to the treatment site. The laser energy is absorbed by pigment in the hair causing selective damage to the follicle. Because the laser treats more than one hair at time, it is possible to treat larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs and face. Even sensitive areas such as nipples, upper lip, bikini line and genitals can be treated easily and with minimal discomfort.

The unique design of the Apex 800 allows treatment of a wide range of skin types and hair colors. Dr. Diane Boysen will evaluate your skin type and hair color to determine if you are a candidate for treatment.

This diode laser system is quick, comfortable and effective. This laser is designed to use selective photothermolysis (i.e. target finer or coarser hairs) and “subzero” skin cooling to effectively injure the hair follicles while sparing even dark skin. Usually three to five treatments are required depending on fineness or thickness and the color of the hair to be treated.



The Erbium Skin Laser

The Erbium laser is used for the treatment of wrinkles, the improvement of scars, and in the general rejuvenation of skin. The laser works by selectively removing a thin layer of outermost skin. It is the most powerful laser offered by Westlake Plastic Surgery and is a procedure done by Dr. Caridi. Laser resurfacing can be done on the entire face or on segments, such as the forehead, cheeks, upper lip or chin. The following conditions are treatable with the Erbium laser:
  • Facial wrinkles
  • Lip lines, crows feet, and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Acne scarring and post surgical scarring
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Laugh lines and frown creases
  • Skin irregularities and blemishes

Once you are adequately anesthetized, Dr. Caridi uses the laser much like a wand or a paintbrush, tailoring the procedure to your individual needs. The ideal candidates for laser skin resurfacing are people who have light colored skin with fine wrinkling. People with olive, brown or black skin have a higher risk of change in pigmentation. It is particularly effective for fine wrinkling around the eyes and vertical lip lines. In addition, sun damaged skin responds extremely well to laser therapy. Dr. Caridi may recommend that you see his aesthetician, Martha Ornelas, for pre-treatment skin care with hydroquinones and Retin A. By pre-treating your skin well in advance of your resurfacing, a more predictable and pleasing result can be achieved.

Laser resurfacing is frequently used in conjunction with other facial cosmetic procedures such as a face lift or eye lift. You can compare a face to a custom made suit. To make the suit fit, you cut away any extra material, and then iron away the wrinkles. The laser takes care of the wrinkles, but does not treat the extra skin. Although the results Erbium laser resurfacing alone are not equivalent to a facelift, most patients are extremely pleased with the outcome.

Overall, the use of the Erbium laser for skin resurfacing won’t take 20 years off your face, but it certainly improves the overall appearance and texture of your skin. Laser resurfacing will tighten your face and smooth wrinkles significantly. It is ideal for use in younger individuals looking for a safe and simple procedure that can dramatically improve the appearance of their face without surgery.
