Age 33: Floating Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck

This is a 33 year old mother of one, 5’3″ and 110 pounds who was interested in abdominal rejuvenation. She had fascial laxity centered at the umbilicus level and a small hernia above the umbilicus as well. She had some loose skin on the lower abdomen. Her abdomen, despite what I noted above, was attractive. The goal is to preserve all that is good and try to fix what isn’t. The loose fascia and hernia are the big deal. This makes for a pooch in the center of her abdomen. The fascia is that inner layer of the abdominal wall that becomes stretched with pregnancy. Her skin was in relatively good condition (not a lot of stretch marks and thinning from the pregnancy).

She is seen here after a “floating” abdominoplasty or tummy tuck. What this means is that there was no incision around her belly button, and a very low incision at the level of her pubis. The fascia was tightened and the hernia was fixed. A small amount of skin was removed on the lower part of the abdomen and the belly button was moved down about two inches. You can clearly see that the pooch is fixed, that here belly button is lower and that her skin is tighter. This was all achieved without obvious scarring about her abdomen. She was a good candidate for this procedure because her skin was relatively good, the problem was mostly fascial weakening, and her umbilicus was situated higher than usual.

Age: 49 Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck

This mother of two children wanted an abdominoplasty. She was 5’5″ and weighed 121 pounds. No matter how much she exercised, her abdomen would not change. She had localized fat in the central portion of her abdomen, loose skin and weakened abdominal fascia. We performed a full abdominoplasty and the removed of 600cc of fat around her flanks and upper abdomen. The “after” photos were taken at one-year post-operatively. Now she is teaching exercise classes!

Age: 40 Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck

This mother of three who is 5′ tall and 115 pounds was interested in a tummy tuck. She had stretched skin and abdominal fascia (the inner strong layer of the abdominal wall that contains the muscle). She is seen here at almost four years post operation. You can see the overall improvement with typical long term scarring which is always much better over time.

Age: 45 Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck

This is a woman, 5’4″ and 158 pounds with several children who was interested in abdominal contouring procedures. We elected to perform a full abdominoplasty and some liposuction about her hips, back and flanks. She is seen here at four months after her procedures. Her abdominal scar is flat but pink. It takes about a year and a half for the abdominal scar to lighten in color and two years or so to look its best.

Age: 33 Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck

This female patient was interested in abdominal tightening after childbirth. We performed a full abdominoplasty with liposuction of the abdomen and the posterior flanks. Notice the overall improvement in her shape. Remember that abdominoplasty scars always look worse in photographs than in real life.

Note the flattening of the abdomen on the lateral (side) view.
